ECONOMIC CONSULTING FOR REGULATION, COMPETITION AND DISPUTES
Oxford Economic Consulting specialises in providing expert advice in economic regulation, competition and antitrust matters and expert testimony in international arbitrations and litigation.
Expert witness in international arbitration and litigation
We provide expert testimony in international disputes (both commercial and investor state) and in civil litigation and criminal proceedings before national courts.
Our expert testimony includes quantum estimation and the calculation of economic damages and opinions on the reasonableness of changes to regulatory frameworks.
We have submitted evidence in arbitral, judicial, administrative and regulatory proceedings in Europe, Asia, Latin America, the USA, Australia and New Zealand across a range of industries (electricity, gas, telecommunications, digital markets and high-tech, water, financial services, aviation and transport).
Economic regulation
We have extensive experience of advising on regulation of the utilities (energy, communications, transport, water and post), financial services, health, the environment, and professional services.
This includes advising on price control design and implementation; access pricing and disputes; and market power assessments. We also provide strategic advice to companies, regulators and competition agencies in new and emerging policy areas such as for artificial intelligence, distributed energy systems, new payment platforms and unmanned aircraft.
We have prepared over 100 expert reports and studies and our work has directly influenced the design and implementation of regulatory policy in several industries and countries.
This has included matters at the forefront of competition and antitrust law, including the first European case to apply an ‘economic approach’ to abuse of dominance; the first criminal price fixing trial in Britain; and antitrust litigation involving high-tech companies and digital platforms.
Our submissions have been presented before the European Commission; US Department of Justice; UK Competition and Markets Authority; Australian Competition and Consumer Commission; New Zealand Commerce Commission; Lithuanian Competition Council; South African Competition Commission and the Federal Economic Prosecutor in Chile.
Training
We offer bespoke training courses to commercial clients, public officials, competition agencies and regulators.
Training courses cover both the fundamentals of economic regulation and competition economics, as well as more specific issues associated with approaches to regulation in specific sectors and industries.
Our courses integrate current theory and practice of regulatory economics and competition economics and focus on real-world examples.
